This poor podenco was recently rescued covered in bites, bloated from the wounds and with hardly any teeth. I have wondered if it was used a bait for dog fighting. I haven’t come across podencos being used like that, as they are not generally submissive; however I have in the past come across galgos being used as bait dogs because of their submissive nature. This poor soul was in Huelva, southern Spain.

Podencoworld Holland – homing podencos from Tenerife
Podencoworld Holland was founded in 2009 and since then I have reported on much of their news, and indeed their founder wrote the foreword for my book From Pyramid to Perrera. They are working closely with a shelter in Tenerife to home rescued podencos back on mainland europe and this is a link to the story of the visit by 4 volunteers as well of news of more of their work. Ibizan Hound Rescue – helping the hounds find homes
Ibizan Hound Rescue was one of the first rescue and rehoming associations devoted solely to the Podenco, and mainly the Podenco Ibicenco. Valerie Wood was my contact when the association was founded. Podenco Joshua – injuries which no dog should suffer
I don’t know what caused the injuries to this poor podenco – have asked – but here is the post from my Podenco Post facebook page. (I’m guessing probably dragged along a tarmac road)‘News from Joshua
Joshua has been evolving favourably and now what he most needs is a home to keep recovering inside and out.
No one has called to help him, that more than anything else gives us sadness, because he needs it so much, because we already knew his appearance would not help him, because he is a podenquito among another hundred thousand podenquitos that there are, because sometimes only important.

Portfolio of Podencos by Podenco Friends
Message from Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends. If you have adopted a podenco from her, or know someone who has, please give them this message.‘I have been asked to submit a portfolio of photos about the Podencos to be considered with a view to be published in one of the top photography Magazines in Europe. With the help of a published professional photographer of this magazine we are preparing this over the next few days with a story line about the podencos. How I started taking photos and the emotional connection people have with them.
So at the moment I am going through loads of photos trying to decide which represent the Podencos and for those who have adopted them. But it would be great to have some input from you guys and welcome any suggestions of a particular photo I have posted resonated with you and the reason why.
This would be a amazing opportunity to get “the great forgotten” story out there to a massive audience and could lead to greater things. Lets do this !!!’
