He is a hunter who is now looking for a ‘friend’ to take the bitch, as he no longer wants her. At least he hasn’t just dumped her. In partnership with Urgence-animaux, le Bulletin Des Lévriers has launched a new worldwide petition to ask for the ban of hunting with Spanish Greyhounds (Galgos) in Spain. In 2009, we sent the 20.000 signatures which we had we collected thanks to Care2 to the Spanish Minister of the Environment. Let’s mobilize again to show the Spanish government that people around the World do not give-up on abused Sighthounds in Spain and that ill-treatments, very real, of Galgos and Podencos in Spain has to stop. If you live on Gran Canaria, Brian from TARA association has sent this message, about having your cat/dog neutered for free.
‘From the 14th through the 20th of September Danish Friends of Animals volulnteers, Dr. Javier Castellano (County Mogan Vet), TARA volunteers, and animal support groups and volunteers from around our wonderful island will be working side by side to neuter up to 250 abandoned dogs and cats for FREE!
Over population of dogs and cats on Gran Canarias leads to the death of tens of thousands of unwanted, unhomed animals bred by humans to be domesticated – needing humans to survive and thrive. Neutering is an important part of the solution.

Pity the Males – adopt a male galgo or podenco – they need forever too
This article is taken from the L’Europe des Levriers website, but it applies to all rescue associations and refuges – pity the male dogs, who get overlooked in preference to femals! And even worse, pity the black dogs who get overlooked in prefencence to other colours. And yet, if you have seen a black galgo – admire the fantastic beauty of the shine on their coat, especially teamed up with a stunning jewelled collar.
Take a moment to think about this, if you might consider adopting a galgo or podenco.

Podenco, abandoned, now in Orihuela perrera. Anyone room to take him?
This podenco is in the perrera in Orihuela. He was abandoned in a remote area, to die of hunger and thirst. He’s been named Poncho by the people who are trying to save him. Has anyone any room?

Young podenco in Albacete killing station – please can someone save him?
This beautiful boy is Mourino, just a year old and already in the Albacete killing station. He desperately needs a foster or adopting family urgently, as the shelters are full. Being young, he’s active and needs training, so he needs an enclosed garden and regular walks.
L’Europe des Levriers desperately want to get him out of the killing station, along with his companion Podo, as they are seriously at risk of being taken by the galgueros. These two boys urgently need someone to give them a chance of a forever life. Please contact them if you can help.

Home required Urgently for Peter Podenco – please help CAS
Here’s another stunning Podenco – named Peter. He’s currently in foster with Freda and Barry Young, who have to return to the UK in September for several months. They desperately want to find a forever home for him, as, if you read his story, going back to the refuge is the last place he needs to go.
‘He is a small podenco weighing about 12Kg. He is very timid but once he has relaxed he is full of fun and very affectionate. He is about 10 – 12 months old and is castrated and vaccinated.
He was thrown over the fence in February at the CAS refuge where we work and when we let the other dogs out for their exercise, about 40 dogs surrounded him. Although we rescued him as quickly as possible, he was very traumatised. He stayed in the refuge for a few weeks but was bullied by the other dogs.
