    You all know that my main work is helping the galgos and podencos in Spain, and supporting the work of the refuges and shelters there. But occasionally something happens elsewhere which enrages me. This is one such story.   • Valencia perrera – podenca on death row because she’s too old to hunt

CESE (relinquished by owner), 11 years old Podenca, born in 2002, dumped by a hunter because she gets tired when hunting, she would not go in the cage without him leading her in. She is in complete shock, does not even know what a blanket is when one was given. Very sweet. Costs involved to save her.

  • Motril, Spain – please sign the petition to protest about shooting dogs

    Shot podenca Motril 5 2013Your support is urgently needed, please sign this petition to protest about the farmers in Motril shooting podencos.

    Here is the story about this poor podenca. She didn’t survive – somewhere in the area there is another one, shot and injured.

    This is a translation of the story as posted by a lady who tried to help save the podenca. This happened In Motril in Southern Spain a podenco wandered in to a finca looking for food Her punishment, she was shot in the head, leg and chest and lost her life. I found this soul destroying.

  • Letter Campaign – please send an email to support this Spanish MP

  • Training a Podenco – superb Obedience and Agility Dogs

    Denzil 2 250I can’t emphasise enough what fabulous hounds podencos are; marvellous companion dogs and, if you get a young one, easy to train and marvellous agility dogs (they are very popular in agility competitions in Germany especially). Bev Farmer fosters podencos and works hard on training them for forever homes. Here’s a great video which illustrates just how well podencos respond to training.

    Bev was one of the many volunteers who went to Bullas on Operation Rehala at the beginning of 2012 and here is what she says.

  • Urgent – 3 pod pups need foster homes and podenca Blanca needs a very special forever home

    Roz Lewis Blanca 4 2013Urgent appeal from Rosemary, who lives in Valencia region and rescued Podenca Ana a couple of years ago.

    ‘I rescued a beautiful white Podenco and have named her Blanca. I had been feeding her for a long time, then she got sick and I managed to catch her. She was very sick, she had very bad anemia, the vet originally said she was 3-4 years old, so I went of and found her a fantastic home to go to and the lady waited and waited for her to get better.

    Last week the head vet told me that although Blanca was much better she could never be vaccinated as her immune system is just not working well and that she thinks she is nearer nine years old. Blanca also needs to be on steroids now for the rest of her life.

    This meant her home fell through and now I am looking to find somewhere for her to spend the rest of her days. I cannot begin to describe how loving this girl is and how easy she is to look after.

  • Stunning young podencos on death row in Valencia perrera

  • Podenco on death row in French dog pound – but which one?!

    I have received the following appeal. A podenco, microchipped and registered in Spain, has ended up on death row in a French dog pound. The person sending the information from Spain has STUPIDLY not put where the dogs is!!! Please see the original appeal. If anyone can find out where it is and save it, please do. I have circulated several French rescue associations.
