  • Ibizan Hound Rescue – helping the hounds find homes

    Ibizan Hound Rescue was one of the first rescue and rehoming associations devoted solely to the Podenco, and mainly the Podenco Ibicenco. Valerie Wood was my contact when the association was founded. They have homes hundreds of hounds over the years, and indeed organised the March in Manchester some years ago, which I had the pleasure of attending and some of my lovely blog readers and their hounds!

I need help urgently … a neighbor of my town has two podenco manetos of 1 year old, they are hellenic, 2 macho … since they were babies .. moored on the roof without leaving, without caresses, without anything … no it matters cold, heat, rain … And he has given them to me but I do not have where to put them, and I am looking for an urgent one!   • Podenco Joshua – injuries which no dog should suffer

    I don’t know what caused the injuries to this poor podenco – have asked – but here is the post from my Podenco Post facebook page. (I’m guessing probably dragged along a tarmac road)

    Joshua has been evolving favourably and now what he most needs is a home to keep recovering inside and out.

    No one has called to help him, that more than anything else gives us sadness, because he needs it so much, because we already knew his appearance would not help him, because he is a podenquito among another hundred thousand podenquitos that there are, because sometimes only important.

  • Podenco Sparky – urgently needs an understanding forever home

    An appeal for a special forever home for this young podenco who desperately now needs a patient loving forever home to continue his education that there are kind people in this world who can bring out what is probably a very loving character.

    From the team at Dog City Residentia. ‘Sparky. Podenco born in April 2015. We don’t know what this little one will have lived through or suffered before reaching us but what we do know living with him daily is that he is very elusive, distant, without wanting to have human contact… Just wants to be invisible, put his head underground and disappear. But we will not let him live like this, we will not allow him to miss the opportunity to enjoy a family life with the warmth of a home, we will fight to realize that the future could look wonderful tomorrow if you let us show you.

  • Happy New Year to all my readers

    My new year wish is for all podencos to have a safe, happy, warm home…sadly just a wish whilst the hunters on the spanish mainland and the Canary Islands continue to overbreed and dispose of their dogs in such huge uncontrolled numbers.

    Message from Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends. If you have adopted a podenco from her, or know someone who has, please give them this message.

    ‘I have been asked to submit a portfolio of photos about the Podencos to be considered with a view to be published in one of the top photography Magazines in Europe. With the help of a published professional photographer of this magazine we are preparing this over the next few days with a story line about the podencos. How I started taking photos and the emotional connection people have with them.

    So at the moment I am going through loads of photos trying to decide which represent the Podencos and for those who have adopted them. But it would be great to have some input from you guys and welcome any suggestions of a particular photo I have posted resonated with you and the reason why.

    This would be a amazing opportunity to get “the great forgotten” story out there to a massive audience and could lead to greater things. Lets do this !!!’

  • Podenca pup left for dead at the side of the road

    A few days ago we got the notice of a dog next to the highway crawling from its back legs. After hours of search we were able to find her. She’s barely 7-Months old, just a puppy that was run over a long time ago and has been without any kind of attention or food. We quickly took her to the clinic for our vet to examine. After doing different tests it has been possible to see that she has several injuries on the 2 legs that have healed badly. She has at the bottom of the femur a callused body due to a untreated breakage that will have to return to its natural place.

    She must be operated as soon as possible to make a femur rectification by shortening a piece to return the articulation to the vertical angle and return the kneecap to its natural site. Trying to increase the mobility of the joint and avoiding the advanced wear in the leg or short or long term which might result in amputation.

    Hope for Podencos have produced a 2019 calendar which contains twelve spectacular images — a celebration of our rescue Podencos large and small.

    All proceeds go towards the building of the new kennel block (The Suzannah Stacey Saving the Gran Canaria Podencos Memorial Kennels) which is so desperately needed for us to continue our work.

    Bebe and myself wish all Podenco Post readers a peaceful and joyous Christmas and a healthy, happy and prosperous 2019. Thank you all for continuing to read the News and supporting the appeals to help need hounds.

    My adorable little Bebe is 16 years old now, slowing down a little but still bossing the galgo pack around! Below are a few pix we’re sharing with you, including one of the first ones I received when she was rescued with an injured hip from a road in Seville. Such a tiny skinny traumatised little podenca.

    There’s also one of her in her favourite spot in front of the fire with buddy Polar from Pepis Refuge and another with Bracken from Galgos del Sol. Also helping Polar, Carmela and Bracken clean up the barbeque!
