  • Portuguese Podengo Jacinta – deserves a loving forever home

    Jacintha 400
From Dogs of Portugal, such a sad story.

‘Jacinta was found on the street, she came to us as a young dog. She was quickly adopted (together with Yuki) and… returned after 3 years. The owners are moving to another country and they say they will live in a small apartment. So they are not taking their dogs with them.

But we realise we should not expect them to care for their dogs. They have neglected them from day 1. When the dogs were returned to us we asked for the books of vaccinations and they said they lost them. “But the dogs were vaccinated!”. We insisted on giving the address of the vet so we could confirm this fact. They indicated “their vet”. The vet is question said they they only saw the dogs once, a few months earlier, when the owners brought them to be euthanized because they were leaving the country. The vet refused to euthanize healthy dogs for that reason. They were never vaccinated there.’

  • Podenco Friends – always pleased to welcome volunteers

News from the finca and Bev Farmer, Podenco Friends

‘It’s the third visit to us this year for Sandra and Dave and every time they arrive with a suitcase full of treats and goodies for the Podencos .. the dogs now recognise the case for they know it will be full of gifts for them

    This video is important
to me not only to show the joy of the dogs but that Tilly is there with them … Two weeks ago she was so sick to the point I made the call to my vets. I stayed awake with her through out the night watching her every breath for I thought her time had come. She is my everything and she was was slipping away and I was falling apart as to lose her would break me. But I under estimated what a strong warrior Tilly is. Yes she is old 17 and half years and no longer can run a marathon and is frail but she is back to shouting at me and getting on with life .. For now I treasure every single minute I get to be with her and she is on the video checking everything out precious moments to enjoy.

Many thanks to Sandra Inglis and Dave Inglis for everything’

Jett and Larimer are 2 podenco x hounds growing up on the finca and looking for forever home.

  • From Lanzarote to Canada – Podenco Martino finally found his forever

    Bev Martino 400 1 9 2019
Happy rehoming story from Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends.

‘Martino . 3 years ago this photo just grabbed at my heart a Podenco that was in the perrera on Lanzarote .. This was the 2nd time he found himself in the pound the first time a hunter took him and them when no longer wanted handed him back . Laura Johnson got him out and to safety and when he was ready he flew over to the finca.

Then Valerie Petterson fell in love with him and he made the flight to Canada . He was 8 years old when he was dumped in the perrera .. 8 years being a loyal servant to his masters. He was the most loving and gentle of souls yet that counted for nothing. All that is the past and he has the most amazing life in Canada. He waited many years but finally found his true family and is very much loved.’

  • Podenca Eire – saved from hanging!

    Salvemos Podencos basket 400
    From Salvemos Podencos

This is our princess Eire. Eire is a podenquita about 1 year old and 6-7 pounds of weight. She was alone for a while roaming the campo, we were asked to help to rescue this little girl. Wee suspect she may have been hung because she has a huge wound that cuts her all the neck. Of course we took care of her. She has suffered a lot despite how little she is, she looks so helpless that she gave us her soul and is a love.

We urgently need foster homes in Barcelona and adoptions. There are many podencos we have in our office. And several podencos that we have without sponsors 60 e /month in the kennels for each dog, plus expenses of vets, transport….., we ask you not to be indifferent to our request and for little that you can help us save lives. Eire has no sponsors so she needs some until she finds a foster home or adoption.
    She deserves a chance!

  • Update on Podenca Carley with Podenco Friends

    Bev Carley vet 400 4 10 2019
From Bev Farmer. ‘Pandora and Carley went in to the vet for their reviews, Pandora for blood tests see how her leishmania is, Carley for a ultrasound and xrays. We were really happy to hear that the lymph gland had not increased in size, no other tumours and her lungs are clear. So for now her chemo treatment seems to be working.

Bruno remarked how well and healthy she looked and we see her at the Finca with lots more energy. We continue with her chemo, she has not had any adverse side effects which is a relief .. and regular ultrasounds and xrays. If no tumours develo, we can look to stop her chemo in a few months.’

You may remember that Carley was rescured with a tiny galgo pup PJ. Sadly PJ became seriously ill and died but Carley goes from strength to strength.

We would like to give a massive shout out to Kindred Spirits Greyhound Adoption. We worked with them to get 9 podencos to the USA a few weeks ago. The rules for getting dogs to the USA have changed and they were a huge help in making this happen.

  • Friend

    FRIEND

When God had made the earth and sky, the flowers and trees,
He then made all the animals and all the birds and bees.
And when His work was finished not one was quite the same
He said, I`ll walk this earth of mine and give each one a name.
And so He travelled land and sea and everywhere He went,
A little creature followed Him, until his strength was spent.
When all were named upon the earth and in the sky and sea,
The little creature said, Dear Lord, there`s not one left for me.
The Father smiled and softly said, I`ve left you to the end.
I`ve turned my own name back to front and
    called you DOG, my friend.

(I like the sentiment in the poem but personally in this world where so many little children and animals suffer – I don’t believe there is a God looking after them. More like their Guardian Angels in the form of volunteers and adopters.!)
