  • Podenca Ariadne – another young podenco hoping there is a forever home for her

    Asociación Valencia Perrera Dogs added 3 photos and a video to the album ARIADNE.

    ARIADNE is in the municipal perrera La Canera (Valencia), she was left abandoned and tied to the perrera gates. She was very thin, not that unusual sadly, but she also has a swaying movement when she walks. Investigations and x-rays have revealed that she has an old injury most likely from a road traffic accident. The hip doesn´t have any major fractures but has been displaced, changing her method of walking. She doesn´t appear to be in any pain and vet opinion is that the pelvis will have stabilized. Surgery is not recommended.

    She has adapted and, with the right help, will continue to improve with rest, physio and good care. Ariadne is in desperate need for a kindly adoption. She is no more than 2 or 3 years old, sociable with other dogs, alert, animated, active and very mobile!

  • Podencos Flacky and Soli – waiting over 5 years for forever homes.

    Meet Flacky and Soli, the forever forgotten, who’ve been waiting for more than 5 years behind bars, in a shelter. That’s the disgrace of being born a podenco in Spain.

    He says, ‘Hi I’m FLACKY (White and Brown) I’m 7 years old! I’ve been waiting for more than 5 years for a home, I’ve been through 3 shelters already and my parents say I’m the best little guy in the world. I play with everyone, very affectionate with people, with children.. That’s right, though I DON’T like cats at all.

    Hi I’m SOLI (Brown) I’m 9 years old! it’s been more than 5 and a half years since I was rescued and since then he has changed a lot, to the point of letting himself be manipulated by who knows him and to be very very affectionate with who he wants and when he wants. One of those invisible little ones, because he is little and because he is afraid, but we, despite his 9 years old and his special needs, will not give up until we find him a family he deserves.

  • Podenco Cookie – STILL waiting for his forever home

    I can’t believe that this fabulous young podenco is STILL waiting for his forever home. Perfect for canicross, bike-joring, agility. Needs an active family.

    A huge thank you to one of our volunteers who took Cookie to TRUST Canine Resort. He had a great time and we can’t believe he is still looking for his forever home. Cookie is brilliant travelling in the car. He loves to play. He loves other dogs and children. Cookie is house trained.

    Cookie is such a lovable boy full of joy that you can’t help but fall for his charms when you spend a little time with him. We hope you will come and meet him. He is neutered and vaccinated. He can travel to the UK and other countries, please contact us for transport options.

  • Podenco Friends – complications in transporting rescued hounds

    As if the marvellous volunteers in Spain working to save and rehome podencos and galgos don’t have enough stress in their lives, living with all the cruelty and abandonment, getting hounds to forever homes also brings its stresses. Bev Farmer tells of a recent nightmare she had to deal with.

    ‘Sancho should have been on a plane flying to Canada last weekend, along with Radley and Gawain, two more Podencos from Ibizan Hound Rescue. They travelled down in the evening with Brian, following morning all the dogs checked in at Malaga Airport and had gone through security ready to board the plane.

    Then Rhonda and Denise (from Canada who were travelling with the dogs) set off to go through passenger security when they discover Rhonda’s passport is missing. Anyway, to cut a long story short the Supervisor for Air Transat at Malaga was rude, obstructive and wasn’t willing to help in any way. I was on the phone to Rhonda and I could hear what she was saying. The dogs’ crates were tagged to Rhonda’s boarding pass but the Supervisor refused to change them over to Denise’s boarding pass, even though other Air Transat personnel on duty at the check in desk asked her to do it.

  • Abandoned podencos – at risk of injury on main roads!

    So upsetting, young frightened podenco loose on a main road near a shopping centre in Granada. So many podencos end up like this, risking serious injury. Hoping someone can get him to safety soon. Curses on the bastard Spanish hunters.

  • When a hunter dies – what happens to his Podencos?

    These 4 podencos were from a hunter who passed away very recently and the family can’t keep them. They need urgent adoption, we need to get them out of those chains, a lifetime tied up and now they finally have the chance to have a worthy home.

    There are 3 males and a female (the brown one), all between 6-10 years old and are near Ontinyent (Valencia).

  • World Championships Agility in Holland – Podenco claims 3rd prize!

    ‘Congratulations to Tila and Adrián Granda who competed at the World Agility Open Championships last weekend (22 May) at Ermelo in the Netherlands.

    They did the Podencos proud and came back with lots of ribbons.

    Always a dream of mine that a Spanish Podenco could show the world what amazing dogs they are. Well done, chica.’

    Only 2 collies came ahead of the podenco!! Says it all!!
