• Protectora Scooby – a desperate situation – over 450 dogs rescued since December 2021

    From Cobie at Scooby Valladolid

‘At the beginning of this year, Scooby saved the lives of many, many galgos and podencos from Andalucia, Murcia and Extremadura. We had thought that most of them would be adopted by now but that is alas not the case. So please, if you think about adopting a dog, consider to give one of our boys or girls a chance and on top of giving them a so much earned home, you can lower our costs because with all prices skyhigh, we really struggle to make ends meet.

    For donations please:

    Paypal fundacion@scoobymedina.org

    Thank you very much!’

  • Malaga – 2 podencos needing a home

    John Doze pod 1 400 6 2022
I received the following appeal in my Inbox this week. Maybe someone can help these 2 podencos.

‘I’m trying to find a home for 2 Podencos, they are 7 years old and I need a home for them as I’m moving back to England and cannot take the dogs with me. They come with their own kennels – see similar on this link. I have had them since they were a couple of weeks old and
    abandoned in a cardboard box.

Attached are a couple of photo’s of them, I would be most pleased if you know of anybody that would like them. I live near Vinuela. Email me please.’

The charming village of La Vinuela (Little Vineyard) is situated 45 kilometres from Malaga and 19 kilometres from the coastal town of Torre del Mar, in the stunning natural surroundings of the Axarquia region.

  • Charl del Rio -112carlotagalgos – on crates for dogs

    Albacete perrera 400 2 May 2011 damitai2
In all my 70+ years of living with dogs from puppies to old dogs, I have never felt the need to use a crate. But these days it’s become fashionable to use a crate if someone can’t train/control their dog. I think – well, human, how would you like to be shut in a cage?’ So this is a very informative article by Charl del Rio, founder of 112carlotagalgos in Alhaurin le Grande, Malaga, on this very subject and why one shoule NEVER use a crate on a galgo or podenco.

    ‘IMPORTANT INFORMATION

    CRATES/TRANSPORTINES/BENCHES AND GALGOS AND PODENCOS

Please remember galgos are not greyhounds and come from an entirely different background. Many a galgo or podenco has been rescued from a severely dark place and time in their life. Many many are rescued from dark small hovels, under ground and in some cases with pallets on the top.

  • Podenco Marlos with broken leg – please help with the huge vet bill

    GRA Marlos 1 400 6 2022
    From Galgos Rescue Almeria

‘This is Marlos. The beautiful chocolate brown podenco was no longer wanted by its owner due to a knee injury. Marlos came 11 March 2021 to GRA, a cheerful playful young fellow who apparently was not much bothered by his limping hind leg.
After an examination by the traumatologist, the advice was not to do surgery for the time being and to wait and see how it developed further.

11 February Marlos could leave to Cristina’s place, Casa degli Elfi where he could get used to home life with other Podencos.

After a few months it turned out that he was experiencing more and more trouble and his leg also became painful. So underwent major surgery and is now convalescing with a foster family.

The vet bill is huge, nearly 2,000 euros, so much for a small shelter like us.

All help / support is welcome to cover his costs.

  • URGENT – temporary UK foster home sought till September

    Foster podencos 6 2022 400
URGENT FOSTER HOME ENGLAND NEEDED FOR ZOLA AND LOUIS …. PLEASE SHARE

Laura Greenway is in the process of competing on a purchase for a new home in the UK only to be told at the last moment the house would not be finished until the middle of September. She had already agreed to leave her current house and can not find anywhere to rent for 3 months which will take dogs.

She is asking if there is anyone out there that would be willing to foster Zola and Louis until her new house is ready. Ideally together has they are very bonded but could go to separate places.

Both are 5 years old and live with cats need a Podenco secure garden, and house trained.

Laura really could do with some help, her eldest daughter has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer, so to know she has some where safe for her dogs would take some pressure off her.

They are currently located in Kettering but she is able to transport them.

It you can help, please email Lauren lauragreenway9@hotmail.com

  • 12th June 2022 – Feria with Podenco Campaneros – with hunters who have no shame!

    Ferria of Rehala Podencos 400 6 2022
From Podenco Campanero – Adopcion Espana

‘It still amazes us that there are Town Councils that dignify and make this a FAIR IN ITS 1ST EDITION. The shotgun and hunting bullets – WE DON’T WANT THEM ANYMORE.

In this country, the dignity of these dogs is not respected, who are slaves of abuse, treated as mere instruments and mostly survivors or victims of extreme living conditions. Until they are thrown out and evicted by the very same ones that feed them.

Those who survive are a minority we find broken and annulled, old, sick, eaten by parasites and with their necks smashed by their collars. With mutilated ears and buttocks and with scars from boar bites.

The hunters have no shame and they show their cultural level. Sad and very sad. Stop making death posters and dare to post the hundreds of cases of animals found destroyed by this “brave task of killing.”

    WE DO THIS EVERY DAY.’

  • Hunting with hounds in Spain – this is NEVER a sport – this is MURDER!

    Adopcion Espana rehala dogs 1 400 5 2022
The sadness in the look of a hound dog

A few times the starting point for these sound narratives is a picture. In general the photography and text accompany the montage. But this time all part of the sad yet furious expression of the dogs in the photograph. They belong to one of the rehalas that participated in a montage in the Sierra Morena on Sunday 7th May 2022, to put an end to the hunting season in that area.

They are little; they spend most of their lives enclosed in fences, in large cages where fights are common. The baldness and scars on their faces denote the violence that took place in their dog existence. When they come out of the cage in which they are locked, they will beat the mountain with rage, lifting up and chasing their prey, boars and deer, which will flee terrified before them.

Rehala podencos suffer a hellish life, hired out to hunters. Read the story of the rescue of these Podenco Campaneros; bathed and brushed they will be stunning. Lovely gentle podencos looking for help.

‘MORTADELO, PHILEMON, OTILIUM, JABATO, CARPANTA, ANACLET, ROMPETECHOS, SUPERLOPEZ, BACTERIA, SACARINO…. Today we’re sharing their appeal together even though we spread them separately.

They are FOR ADOPTION at EL CAMPITO – Salvado Peludos in Madrid. ( You can see her videos and pictures there. Their full info on their page)
    LINK: https://www.facebook.com/elcampitosalvandopeludos

They are beauties to see them play and see how they have recovered from the wounds and traumas they brought from the farm of the horrors of the Torrelaguna rehala in Madrid. More than 140 dogs were seized by the Civil Guard for living in terrible conditions incompatible with life and health. Everyone is a victim. There were pregnant females and lactating puppies. There were dead puppies and corpses.. but all that happened.!!!
