  • Podenca wins Medium Agility Champion in Spain! Podencos make great agility dogs!

    Great news from Bev Farmer – that a podenca has become an agility champion in Spain.

    ‘Congratulations to Adrián Granda and Tila. Weekend of 13/14 August they became the Spanish champions in the Medium Category for agility. Adrian posted this- ‘this is no longer a dream, it’s a reality. The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people are saying you are not capable of doing’.

    Well you two showed the world how special the Podencos are.

    Let’s our international Podenco community send good wishes to this amazing team. Both wonderful ambassadors for the Podencos ..no longer the great forgotten ..

    Scooby Spanish Dog Rescue UK is the UK agent responsible for rehoming abandoned and often abused dogs from the Scooby Animal Shelter in Medina, northern Spain. We find suitable foster and permanent adoption homes throughout the UK and take care of all the stages from bringing your chosen Spanish rescue from the shelter to the UK.

    Our aim is to help Scooby Medina rehome the excess of dogs that they protect to prevent them living the rest of their days in the shelter, sadly there is simply not enough demand at this present time to all be rehomed in Spain. Over time we hope this might change and our services will no longer be required. This can only be achieved by educating and raising awareness throughout the rural communities of Spain into understanding the importance of neutering and to eradicate needless neglect, cruelty and abandonment for good.

  • Old sick podenca dumped in the campo to die

    It never ends but this is truly the lowest humanity can sink……..

    This 12 year old Podenca was found severely dehydrated and very underweight, out in the burning hot temperatures currently plaguing Spain. She was wandering alone in the countryside and arrived at an isolated country house. The owner of the house called Eleanor Nikki Fearn to tell her that a dog had appeared there in very bad condition.
    She was taken straight to the vet and it was discovered she also has aenemia and several mammary tumours. She is really in a very bad state and definitely has not known any happiness in her long life.

  • Seville, Spain – dogs dumped before holidays!

    Holidays are a terrible time around the world for people dumping their dogs before they go on holiday. This is in Spain.

    SEVILLA!!!! Holidays are here and we are full of dogs. They are all cheap excuses for heartless people who don’t give a fuck about the animal. This poor wretch only 3 months old and his “family” threatens to take him to the perrera, at best, at worst he’ll end up in a garden or in the ditch of a road. They don’t pay travel or take him anywhere, imagine what the puppy cares.

  • Podenca terrified to death!

    Whatever can have been done to this poor podenca to make her so terrified of life. Hopefully someone will come forward and rescue her from the Baza-Granada perrera!

    She is so terrified she does not get up from the ground, totally submissive, cradled with fear, how much has she been beaten to an inch of her life?! The perrera or shelter is not a place for her, the cries and howls she hears scare her more and more.

  • Salva un podenco Gran Canaria – desperate for a forever home –

    The only hope for the Canary Islands podencos for forever homes is on mainland Europe or across the Atlantic. Please share this little beauty or even adopt her if you have room in your home and heart for her. So deserving.

    ‘KARIN. She’s been with us since a puppy, we picked her up about three months and she had canine parvovirosis.
    She finally recovered and has grown up in several foster homes. She is eleven months old and is still looking for a family for the rest of her life.

    She is sociable with people and dogs, with cats we don’t know. Active, playful and loves walks.

    Ideal would be a family with some other dogs and no small children as she is boisterous playing with them.

    Will you help us find her a forever home?

    Great news. But that means even more dogs in shelters! Now Spain needs a law for compulsory neutering of dogs and cats and handcuffing the hunters for overbreeding.

  • Akira Dog Santuary – Podenco Charlie still waiting for a forever home

    Charlie was brought to the shelter in a terrible condition. He was so skinny and he was so depressed he had almost given up just sitting and not moving or eating. The team persevered with him to give him all he needed and slowly he relaxed enough to start eating. Charlie is still a little underweight but he is starting to gain and it continue at a healthy pace.

    URGENT – VERY THIN AND SCARED TO DEATH IN DANGER – sadly the lot of a lot of podencos, especially during summer

    Found little white podenca dog with cinnamon spots. She’s full of parasites, very thin and scared to death. She got into a field but the owner doesn’t want her there and is going to dump her. Not picked up
