  • Gran Canaria, dogs starved to death – Seprona on the case

    The Guardia Civil Seprona Santa Maria de Guía (Gran Canaria), has accused a man of an alleged crime of animal abuse and neglect after an investigation and finding several dogs in poor condition. One of the officers who went to investigate, found two lofts, which was a strong odour.

    Upon entering the room he saw two podencos on chains. One of them was still alive, but emaciated due to malnutrition, probably because there was no trace of food and water around. A short distance away lay the body of another podenco,extremely thin in appearance and with several bite wounds, with clear signs of having been partially devoured. The Civil Guard found another dead dog, this time of the Boxer breed.

  • Podenco pups in a killing station! Anyone help?

I haven’t got much information, the email implies that they are in Jerez perrera in Cadiz, along with a handsome brindle year-old male galgo with an injured hind leg.   • 3 young podencos starving on the campo in Murcia – urgent help needed

    Puerto Real crop 250 30 06 2011 This poor bitch is one of three podencos abandoned close to the River (murcia). A boy who saw them and took the pictures said they look young, are skin and bones. Another man in the area is trying to shoot them. Please contact any of these people to find the exact area if you can help. With the heat, and without food and water in the middle of the campo, they will not last long.

  • Pet Passport UK – DEFRA relax rules from January 2012

    Great news for people travelling dogs between UK and the rest of Europe. From January 2012 DEFRA will bring their rules of entry into the UK, whereby a dog only needs to wait for 21 days after their rabies vaccination, rather than have a blood test and then wait 6 months.     She has been named Linda. Life has obviously been very miserable for her, at the hands of unscrupulous people who have used her for breeding, discarded now. She’s been wandering for more than 3 months, disoriented, malnourished, depressed. She’s had a blow to the face, no front teeth. She’s currently off the street in an empty house but needs to be with someone who will put the life back into her and find her a forever home. Please can someone take this lost soul.

  • Holidays on Lanzarote – visit SARA Protectora and the podencos

    SARA Braille 250 11 2010 SARA Protectora shelter on Lanzarote in the Canary Islands work very hard to help abandoned dogs and cats, especially podencos. Here is a list of some more of these fabulous dogs, desperately waiting for homes on mainland Europe, which is their only hope of a life outside of the shelter. As I keep saying, these dogs make fabulous companions, Pets as Therapy dogs, agility dogs – if adopted young. And are extremely loyal. Please give them a chance.

    FITO – Submissive and nervous, very kind. Needs somebody who gives him security and love. He doesn’t pull on the lead and is now beginning slowly to become more confident when outside.
