• Portuguese Podenga – 4 lovelies waiting for forever homes

Dogs of Portugal Lina 2 400
The podencos and galgos in Portugal suffer just as much inhumane treatment and abuse as the ones in Spain, as I often publish on my blogs. Yet they don’t get the media coverage to help them find homes. Here are 4 lovelies who have been taken by a huner to the Dogs of Portugal refuge and who will be hoping forever homes. Contact Dogs of Portugal direct if you would like to adopt one.

Here’s a video of them all. Lovely happy dogs, just ready for a home and loving! How could you resist that gorgeous face of Lina!

  • Podenco Canario Peaky – in the UK and waiting for adoption in a forever home

    Peaky 400 8 5 2018
Introducing this stunning Podenco pup whose name is Peaky as he came over from the Canary Islands with his best friend another pup. They were both named “Peaky and Blinder” after the TV series so his name is Peaky, Blinder is already adopted.

Unbelievable that 2 small podenco pups were in a perrera, and worse for Peaky is that he was kept in the perreraAlberge banaderos perrera would not release him for THREE MONTHS. He was reserved the day he came in as volunteers wrote saying how terrified he was – but three long months they kept this poor soul in,
especially as the volunteers had identified him as a very vulnerable case.

Peaky arrived in the UK in January 2018 and is now about 9 months old. He’s now ready to move to the next stage of his life – must go to a home with other dogs, not cat tested but never been used to hunt so potentially could; also be ideal to train for canicross. He is fully passported, in foster and can be cat tested, home checks, adoption fee apply( hes the white and tan big pup).

Contact Patricia Herrera if you can offer him the forever home he deserves.

  • A Forum for Podenco adoptants? Is there one?

Does anyone know of a forum where Podenco adoptants can exchange ideas/experience/help etc, for someone not on facebook? I have received an email from someone who has adopted a young Portuguese Podengo who has been very abused and would like to share with others who have similar experience.

  • Trip to the Dog Park

Besides the obvious, Humans often ask; What is the difference between a Galgo and a Podenco? I want to explain it by an example:

A Trip to the Dog Park

    We Arrive;
The Galgos are running like crazy.
The Pods welcome every dog, man, tree, blade of grass with endless, constantly changing, body language and facial expressions.

    The First Five Minutes after Arrival;
The galgos are running like crazy.
The Pods dig up seventy small animals, they create mounds of undefinable mud, which sticks to everything it touches.

  • Teresa Watkin – talented artist

    Noseypod 400
Another lovely Podenco by artist Teresa Watkin.

  • Podenco Merric – deserves a loving forever home

    Merric 4 400
Merric is a lovely 5 year old Podenco, good with people and other dogs. He has a bend leg but runs like all other dogs and it does not seem to bother him at all. Does not make him less handsome.

This lovely boy is as good as gold, had a tough tough time as his leg shows though it does not affect him luckily -and so needs a loving family to adopt him

  • Perrera hell for podencos

This is my home Bex Seal 400 5 2018
This is my home.. If you can call it that. I’m imprisoned within these walls without even a window to look out of. My water is green and yet I’m meant to drink it still. I’m being eaten alive by insects, I have no bed to lay on and the food is like eating cardboard. The howls of other dogs who surround me keep me awake at night. They cry for their families, just for someone to love them!

Can you see the marks on the walls behind me? That’s my many failed attempts at escaping this hell hole. I can’t get out, unless someone takes me out. I wonder who will? Will anyone? And where will they take me? Will it be to a new life or a vets room..?

Will I fall asleep and wake up with someone caressing my fur and telling me I’m a good dog? Or will I just never wake up…?

I can’t answer these questions but YOU could.. YOU have the power to free me or any dog in here.. I guess the real question is,

  • Cabo Roig, Costa Blanca – anyone help?

I received the following message from a reader. If anyone knows the answer to her question, please contact Fiona direct.

‘I am wondering if you can help me. I was in Spain, in Cabo Roig, a couple of weeks ago, and as I always do, I fed the stray cats.

I read this article in the Costa Blanca News on 11th May about the construction of cat shelters in some areas. Unfortunately, however, there was no mention of the intention to build shelters in Cab Roig.

Would you happen to know of any contact details, whom I could email to request that they construct shelters in Cabo?’

  • How does your dog deal with death in the family?

Who knows what goes through the mind of a dog when either another family pet, or a family member, dies? My animals (including my horse when his mate died) get depressed, sleep a lot, go off their food. Here’s an interesting article about a funeral home which lets a dog say farewell to it’s deceased owner.
