Traumatised Podenco Andi needs a special home

Regular readers will know the story of Podenco Pepe and his rehabilitation with Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends. This is his brother Andi who also needs a special experienced understanding home.
We are desperately searching for a long-term foster home for Andi who is with Friends of Aprop in the Valencia region, Spain.
Please share , let’s make him visible to as many people as possible.Just like Pepe, Andi is very anxious and fearful of people. The rescue has been working with a behaviourist, and he is now allowing gentle touch, which is a huge step forward. But sensitive, troubled dogs like these two boys will never truly thrive in a busy rescue environment.
They need calm. They need quiet. They need one person willing to give patient, one-to-one support. (more…) -

TAKE ACTION NOW FOR THE SPANISH HUNTING DOGS
SIGN THE PETITION. THELIFELIKECHARLIE.COM
HERE’S WHAT THE TRANSLATION OF THE PETITION IS IN ENGLISH. FEEL FREE TO USE THIS AN EMAIL TEMPLATE TOO. (THIS IS SUMMARISED SO IT CAN BE POSTED)I, [FULL NAME], holder of ID number [ID/PASSPORT NUMBER], submit this statement regarding the preliminary public consultation on the draft Royal Decree on traditional zoological centres to express my concern about its scope and consequences.
I support the submissions of Fundación AnimaNaturalis Internacional (CIF G67350462) and highlight the following:
– Definition of “traditional zoological centres”The current definition, based mainly on exclusions, creates legal uncertainty and allows overly broad interpretations. Clear, positive and restrictive criteria are essential to avoid including animals or establishments that should not fall under livestock health regulations.
– Exclusion of hunting dogs and other non-productive dogs (more…) -
Podenco Pepe – a work in progress after a lifetime of fear

Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends writes about Pepe – a podenco whose life has been full of fear.
I wanted to give some insight into why Pepe struggles to cope with so many everyday things. Piecing together his history, it likely began before he was even born.
Pepe was born to a very nervous Podenco living on the streets. During pregnancy, a highly stressed mother produces stress-related hormones, particularly cortisol, which can cross the placenta. This can affect the developing puppies’ brains and their stress-response systems, essentially setting their “stress threshold” much higher than normal. Puppies exposed to this are far more likely to grow up fearful, anxious, and easily overwhelmed. (more…)

PACMA – speaking up for the animals of Spain

Thinking of all the Spanish rescue shelters in Andalucia during the terrible Storm Leonardo and praying none of them are flooded out or suffer damage. This from PACMA – Partido Animalista.
We’re writing to you today at a particularly worrying time. Given the adverse weather forecast for Andalusia, we at PACMA have had to do what no other political force is doing: demand the activation of an emergency plan that includes animals.
While the authorities are preparing (and rightly so) to protect people and infrastructure, animals remain absent from official protocols.
Overcrowded shelters, volunteers without resources, animals dependent on humans completely exposed to the cold, heavy rain, or potential flooding. This is the reality that keeps repeating itself, and from which we never seem to learn. (more…)
