  • 90 podencos of Mogan, Gran Canaria – one year on

    90 podencos Mogan 400 8 2016Do you remember this heartbreaking story? This is the latest update – you will be as heartbroken as me to read that no matter how hard the team try to get some action, they are no further forward.

    ‘These 90 podencos continue today (11-08-2016) in the same situation of abuse after three years after being condemned by a local protective. These images are repeated today in the new location after a metal plates under the sweltering heat because the owner responsible fled to another municipality in the month of December 2015. The matter is now in the hands of the examining court no. 1 of Telde after two and a half years of municipal bureaucracy.

  • URGENT – Podenca Mom and Pups need saving before the hunters get them!

  • Holidaying in Lanzarote – contact The Kennel Klub – meet their hounds

    First up is young Erin, she is 7 months old and a Podenco cross. She is really sweet, confident and friendly but she is a destructive puppy and desperately needs a forever home where her training can begin!

    This brown & white boy is Goldie, he is a Podenco cross, also rescued from the pound. He has been in a kennel since the age of 3 months old so has missed out on the usual puppy training. He is very friendly and very intelligent but does need some guidance and some one with the time to spend with him. He is good with most other dogs and children. He is a beautiful looking boy. Now around 1 year old.

    It’s a long time since I left.
    The truth is that I was never happy, always treated me badly.
    I lived in a place surrounded and with a small roof to get out of the cold and the rain.
    I’m just out to hunt, until one day they stopped doing it.
    I don’t run long enough for that person to whom I belonged.
    A few days later they took me in the middle of the field with another dog like me and they cut us loose.
    I didn’t know what to do, whether to run, or wait until my master gave me an order.
    I was disoriented.
    I’ve never lived through a similar situation.

  • A blind podenco hoping for that special forever home

    Is there anyone out there that can help us to find some contacts to rehome an adorable blind Podenco called Pancho – this lad is blind from birth, managed on the streets for a while and then came into our care. Pancho does not let his disability limit him at all – after 10 minutes he can navigate a new place perfectly. He is utterly gorgeous, loving and a credit to his breed – can anyone help please?   • Podenco Canarios Romeo and Valentino – from perrera to forever homes

    Patricia Herrera 2 250I’ve always advertised the Canary Islands podenco rescue associations as they desperately need help to rehome these fabulous hounds. Here’s a lovely story about two of them rehomed with Patricia Herrera and her husband.

    ‘After finding out just how easy it was to adopt a podenco from Gran Canaria through the Saving the Gran Canaria Podencos page, thanks to the amazing help of a certain wonderful someone … I decided that one podenco is never enough and decided to get a pod pal for Valentino, who at 1 needed a playmate as my other dogs are 11, 12 and maybe 16 years old!

    As you can see it was a rip roaring success and Romeo and Valentino adore each other and coming from the perrera were both very well socialised and surprisingly also house trained despite their harsh upbringing.
    Podencos are such beautiful, gentle and sensitive dogs they can find pound life unbearably stressful and often give up eating and lose the will to live and are so terribly grateful for being saved and shown the love they have longed for all their lives so adopting or fostering is incredibly rewarding.

  • PODENCO PATERNINO of Huelva Province – Edy for adoption

    Huelva podenco Edy 170 2Edy – a special and unusual black and white podenco boy who longs to be loved, but is still so shy and nervy and would need a very gentle patient family to build his confidence. Edy was in the kill pound in Valencia and saved by volunteers, he is safe in a kind kennels in Spain but he has got quite stuck and as he only knows rural kennels (for far too long) is very scared of anyone or anything new. But he is the most handsome gentle boy and would become your most wonderful friend.     Martin was rescued off the streets and was covered in ticks and injuries.
    He was bathed and the ticks removed and is now healed but has scars from the hard life he has led.
    He is now at risk of being PTS as the shelter he is in is closing and if a home isnt found then he will be sent to a kill shelter.

  • Duathlon, 19th March 2016, Clumber Park, Nottingham – Sponsor Team Pepis

    Anca podenca blind 250 8 2015Pepis Dog Refuge in Pedrera, Seville, has an outstanding vet bill so far of nearly 4,000 euros! That includes sterilization of dogs (the first thing to be done with the arrival of each new dog, to prevent unwanted puppies), vaccinations, dogs needing operations, medication…the list is endless.

    It’s desperate that this bill is cleared and to that end Ellen Stevens and 2 friends have entered the team event in the Duathlon at Clumber Park, Nottingham, on 19th March 2016. If you look on the Youcaring link below, you can read all about it.

  • Portuguese Podengo – two lovelies needing forever homes

    ‘A friend of mine recently rescued this Podengo mother and her son. The mother (see pic)is a young adult and the youngster male is about 5/6 months old we think.
