  • Hunting with galgos and podencos in Spain – 2014/15 season due to start

Podencos suffer as much abuse, if not more, than the galgos and they still don’t get the publicity due to them. The next hunting season is due to start. Galgueros still claim they care for their dogs. They must have their heads stuck up their a….! This video shows the truth.

  • Holidays in Mallorca – accommodation in Mallorca

So, Mallorca. Destination of the hen and stag parties, along with Ibiza! None of these young chavs have any idea of what life is like on the island for the animals – how many dogs and cats are abandoned to fend for themselves. Have a look at the reality – SOS Animal Mallorca. Beautiful dogs, life stretches out for them in the refuge. No podencos, but I just felt I had to publicise yet again that life on the Spanish islands is hard.

  • SARA Protectora, Lanzarote – saving dogs

SARA Protectora clavel 170 9 2013The Canary Island podencos have a very hard life and here’s just one example. Meet Clavel, or Carnation in English. Here is what SARA say.

Clavel is the name we have given to this little male podenco, which the owner brought to our premises on the order of Seprona, who went to the house to process the complaint. They ordered that the dog be taken to our kennels to be treated and of course to be found a new home. The owner knew that the eye had been bad for a long time and that as of course it hadn’t been treated, the eye just exploded, with all the suffering that entails.

It was necessary to remove the eye and now he is recuperating from the operation.

Thank you to Seprona for taking action for this little dog and bringing him to us so that he can be treated.

If you would like to offer Clavel a loving forever home, contact SARA Protectora.

  • Podencos on death row in Mairena perrera, Sevilla

Mairena perrera 1 250Many years ago I wrote about the horrendous conditions for the dogs in Mairena perrera, near Seville. For a while the volunteers were refused access because of the photos which were published. volunteers now have access to the dogs again.

Maria says ‘There are currently 12 podencos at Mairena’s dog pound. This is one of the worst dog pounds in Spain. The dogs are not fed properly, they are sick and nobody cares, the dogs are not euthanasied properly (they don’t use the normal “stuff” and the dog takes forever to die), “galgueros” (hunters) are VIP visitors and can adopt all the dogs they want… Please, help them.’

  • Podenco saved from a ravine in Murcia – Galgos del Sol to the rescue

Ravine pod 1 250 GdS 7 2012A year or so back I published a story about a galgo rescued from a ravine by Baas Galgo. This time it’s a podenco stuck down a deep ravine, rescued by Galgos del Sol with the help of a local fireman. Judging from the skeletal condition of the poor hound, he’d been down there a while. Sometimes the dogs fall down these ravines when hunting, but at this time of year…no hunting…looks like his journey there was a different story. Now he’s safe, very tired, recovering with GdS. The fireman named him Moses. Here are the photos of his rescue.

Urgent Appeal from Cuenca – here’s the link to the Cuenca podencos – there has now been an inspection at the Cuenca Dog Pound and the authorities say there are 100 dogs too many and if they don’t find homes for them asap, then they will be killed.

    Urgent appeal to save the lives of 100 dogs. Oscar writes from Cuenca;

‘Milagros from the Cuenca Dog Pound just informed me that the Inspection has been at the pound and that they “counted” 100 dogs too many. Therefore it is extremely urgent to get 100 (ONE HUNDRED) dogs out of there.

  • Free to a good home – would you do this to a child?

    Taken off my FB wall

FREE TO A GOOD HOME: 2 year old child. Genuine reason, I’ve just got a new puppy so no longer have the time for the child. Also worried the child may bite the puppy. Child is crate trained and up to date on all shots. Needs home by tomorrow or it’ll be put to sleep. Thanks! YOU WOULDN’T DO THIS TO A CHILD SO WHY DO U SEE IT AS ACCEPTABLE TO DO IT TO A DOG? If you can’t dedicate 15yrs to a dog, don’t get one!! ;-)..
