Bev Farmer and Warren Beards of Podenco Friends…amazing ambassadors for the rescue and rehabilitation of podencos thrown away as trash by the Spanish hunter. • Chained in a cave in Gran Canaria – used as a breeding machine!

Lynn Destiny 1 400 Apologies to Lynn Paulrodos…this story should have been published at the beginning of October 2017!

Lynn Paulrodos lives in northern France and has opened Avalon Animal Sanctuary as her collection of rescued animals has increased, which includes dogs, horses, goats… Here is the story of her most recent arrival – Destiny, a Gran Canary podenca found starving, chained up in a cave, and obviously used as a breeding machine!

‘DESTINY aka Cave Girl was found chained up in a cave in Gran Canary in August 2017 and taken to Pet Pals GC. She was under 8kgs and had a large mammary tumour with a cluster of smaller tumours inside and also tumours on her lungs—she’s only just 5yrs old!!

It was decided to give her a chance and she was operated on on 4 Sept –the vet removed 14 mammary tumours and 2 hernias!! I was asked to help her as it’s not known how long she will live and no-one else was interested to take her—she is also Filaria (heartworm) positive.

  • Malaga/Estepona area? Puppy training courses at In The Doghouse

Calling people in the Malaga/Estepona area of Andalucia. If you have any puppies which qualify, get in touch with Nando Brown of In The Doghouse.

‘We run a rescue pup course where pups around 10-14 weeks stay with a dog trainer for 5 days, do training, get socialised etc in the hope to get them rehomed – all with Nando. Have you heard of any pups around Malaga area that are in rescue that could take part? The last few have been really successful, a lot of the trainers have taken the ones they had, or helped find homes for them. Be awesome to get some Galgos or Podencos on the course.’

  • Podenca Andaluz Lucy – abandoned in Malaga, forever in Holland

Lucy Malaga airport 250 2 25 1 2012Little Podenca Andaluz Lucy was rescued by Susanna from the side of a railway track. She suffered serious injury from being attacked by a larger dog, but has made a marvellous recovery, thanks to the work of 112carlotagalgos and Paco, their vet. Podencoworld in Holland had an offer of a foster home for Lucy and on 25th January, Lucy and four other lucky podencos flew from Malaga airport to Holland. Because Lucy only weight 8 kilos, she went as ‘hand luggage’!

Here are some photos of Lucy at the airports, including Susanna, her rescuer, and a lovely video of her playing in her foster home, the day after her arrival. Good luck Lucy, you will soon find your forever family.
