  • Galgos sans Famille – beautiful podencos needing forever homes

    Galgos sans famille

Let’s not forget the Podencos!! They too are impacted by this new law in Spain which excludes them as well as Galgos from any form of protection and continue to retain the status of “tool dogs”

They too deserve to leave Spain after a life of exploitation for hunting, abuse and misery. It should not be forgotten that most of these dogs have never known home life, human love and family life, so they will need gentleness, love and patience, but they will give it back to you hundredfold

  • Two Terrified Podencos – the fate of so many after hunting finished

    Afraid podencos 400 15 2 2023
Two thin and very scared abandoned podencos found in Vilaseca. One has been caught but the other one ran away, terrified. Volunteers are still trying to catch it.

The sad fate of so many of Spain’s hunting dogs and the bloody Spanish government doesn’t care because hunting earns them billions of euros every year. Money matters more than the lives of hunting dogs.

  • A Black Day for Spanish Animals – 9th February 2023

Black Day for Spanish Animals 400 2 2023
From Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends

‘9th February 2023 was a black day for animal welfare in Spain, the Government signed an agreement where both parties promised dignity for all animals. In what will be the ” National Animal Protection Act” the animal welfare law was passed but have excluded the bulls tortured at bull festivities, the millions of animals riddled by hunters, the ones used for animal testing, the ones considered production, such as executed in slaughterhouses, some horses, those used in pilgrimages, dolphins and hunting dogs. What this means Podencos and Galgos plus many other animals in Spain, are not protected they are in a worse position than before.

  • The Faithful Hound – Podenco Photography project

    How can you help?

Do you have a podenco? Would you like to share their story?

We want to show your dogs off to the world and show everyone that podencos make wonderful pets. Together, we can raise awareness so that more of these amazing dogs can be adopted out to their forever homes.

We are looking for people who live in Scotland and who have adopted a podenco from Spain.

The aim of the project is to raise money for podenco rescues and raise awareness for this wonderful breed in Scotland.

In 2023, we will be working on a special book project called ‘Podencos in Scotland’. For this book we are organising multiple photoshoots throughout the year, so we are looking for several podenco models with a story to tell.

Could your pod be one of them?

  • Refugio Kimba – a year saving Spanish hunting dogs

    Refugio Kimba logo 300
    FEBRUARY 1 WORLD GALGO DAY

They say out there, that greyhounds dream their whole life with a life to come, they dream their home, their family, every place, and that dream helps them to be able to get through their reality of abuse and torture. Many make it and others get left in the way.. So when a greyhound comes to your life is not that you have chosen but he dreams.

The end of the hunt comes and with it the end of their lives or the release of others.

Over a year we collect many dogs, but the vast majority are hunting dogs, especially greyhounds and podencos. It is very painful to see how they arrive with their souls totally shattered, atrocious fear and utter distrust for human, not to mention the physical wounds. Dogs that pee and defecate on you when you look into their eyes… We can’t imagine what they’ve had to go through.

  • Podenco Wilf – in UK foster looking for a forever home

    PINS Wilf 1 400 2 2023
Do you remember the story of Wilf, the podenco left badly injured at the side of the road, and whom Pam McLeod of Podencos In Need Scotland responded to my plea for help for him. He’s now all repaired and recovered and in foster in the UK hoping for a forever home. I would love to adopt him, but after downsizing from our French farm to a small bungalow, we simply haven’t room for a third podenco!

Contact PINS if you have room in your home and heart for him.

  • Galgos Rescue Almeria – 2 Podenco Campaneros hoping for forever homes

From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria

    Artillero & Madroño

We would like to put our 2 Podencos Campanero ( Madroño & Artillero) in the spotlight. Meanwhile, all dogs that came to us from the infamous shelter that had to close the doors have arrived safe and sound in their new families. They celebrated Christmas in a warm and cozy home.

Too bad for our 2 Campaneros, they have faded into the background.Unfortunately, there are no requests for Artillero & Madroño yet.

Both are very social and very affectionate.

For both we are looking for homes where there are no small dogs or cats.

    Artillero

    Madrono

They are just big woolly teddy bears!
