My little Podenca Rosely sometimes has a third eyelid appear in the corner of her eyes and I have been told it is known as Cherry Eye.

‘Why a minimu 2m high fence/wall is required if adopting a podenco. This fence is 1.2m high and the podenco just pops over it with minimal effort.’
I was recently contacted by Sharon Bays who has been involved with dog rescue in the UK and now moved to Spain. The organisation she works for is AA Dog Rescue Spain.
There are several gorgeous podencos looking for forever homes. This one here is Nacho.
Have a look at this weblink, read about the Association and their Transport Services, and if you can offer any of their rescue a forever home, contact them direct.
With the main holiday season upon us, many pet lovers will be taking their 4-legged friends with them. Besides packing your own things including a first aid kit, it’s advisable to pack a first aid kit for your pet too. Then you’re prepared if your dog cut itself, gets heat stroke, burns, insect stings.
The Blue Cross have a comprehensive website article dedicated to covering what you need in your pets First Aid Kit.

Video of podenca needing help
Please help us to help.
This Podenca is still quite shy. The plan is to get her to the point that curiosity (and food stimulus) draws on and she goes into a live trap. After that she should be castrated and urgently also seen what’s going on with her leg.
Please share our project so that we can castrate numerous stray dogs and also have enough food available.
You can see how narrow most of the animals are.
Although this is a video from when Scooby was 25 years old, nothing has changed apart from some of the animals! The abandonment of hunting dogs, the cruelty to animals in Spain never changes and yet the Scooby team are always there to help. Please support them.
Report and video from Protectora Scooby Palencia which, along with Scooby Zamorra, were the 2 latest shelters to open.
(Translation) ‘Summer is usually a difficult time for animal protectors, since the number of abandoned dogs increases with the holidays. This year, for the moment, fewer dropouts have been registered in Palencia than in previous campaigns, which suggests that society is becoming more aware. But there is still a long way to go, especially when it comes to acquiring a pet. For many, buying an animal is a whim that contributes to increasing the problem. Adopting, on the other hand, can be the solution and gives these animals a second chance.’
And a video of a visit to Protectora Scooby Medina by a young French woman and her father. Note the white podenco sitting in a hole. This is often the ‘bed’ for hounds which are chained outside.
‘Let’s fight for the poor PODENCOS
This is Atos, a Podenco Orito, and below is MINT. Two of the most WONDERFUL breeds and at the same time the most PUNISHED in this country of Spain. Both INVISIBLE, young and rotting after damn in a shelter. They are in Malaga but they can travel.
ATOS and MINT, both were going on the directionless road where their abused little bodies would lead them, they were rescued in terrible conditions and are now in a kennel. Don’t let them fall into oblivion forever.
ATOS (Podenco Orito) is one year old, very sweet, we already know Podencos are angels without wings, would you like to give him a home? Give me a call… Contact : Mcarmen Rincon (Spain 0034) 691036286
MINT (Podenca) is not even 2 years old and very sweet with everyone. Contact: Angeles Dominguez (Spain 0034) 644761436 )
I adopted Rosely 18 months ago. She was 9 years old but very lively and loves long walks, and has a dog-wagging tail – it never stops unless she is frightened!
In Valencia. ‘This is an older girl hoping for a forever home. Female, she had no chip, older and very scared, she will be about 8 or 9 years old, found in Llombai, very scared, but then she is a treasure. It’s clear she’s had bad experiences.
She urgently needs a foster home or, even better, a forever home. She doesn’t deserve to end up in a cage. We named her Pinky.

‘Canine Brucellosis, this is relevant to anyone in the UK that has adopted a dog from overseas .. please read
There have been a number of reports of some veterinary Clinics in the UK that any one that has brought a dog into the UK from overseas. They are now insisting it is tested for Brucellosis before they are willing to treat it .. I have attached a link below from an article from the British Veterinary Association recommending protocols ti be put in place ..
This will also include breeders importing dogs and possibly people who travel overseas with their dogs..
My concern is your dog needs emergency treatment and it is delayed until the blood results are back, it may be too late.
Asking some of our adopters it seems that the private practices are not making this request but the bigger practices that are owned by companies are doing so. Even dogs that have been in the UK for a number of years with no symptoms.
