  • Podenco Friends – simply stunning podencos for adoption

    Bev long stay pods 400 1 4 5 2018
    From Bev Farmer.

‘Everyone has always answered our call to help sharing our podencos for adoption and we have had great success but again we ask for you help. Some of them have been with us over a year and although safe its no substitute for a real family. To find homes in Spain for Podencos is limited so we look to other countries and we ask for your help to share their details as much as possible. This is the lifeblood of any rescue unless people are aware we have so many waiting for their forever sofa they will remain here…..

These are some of our ours for adoption we have more that are not ready for their next stage in their lives. We have a number reserved due to leave soon and have some waiting to come to us please hit the share button and lets find these their forever homes. Unless stated all of them have been tested negative for Leishmania, Filaria, Ehlrichia, and anaplasma all are sterilised unless they are puppies. Thank you for your support

These are the photos on facebook if you are able to see them.

  • From Mairena perrera to a happy forever home – Podenca Selina

    Selina in Mairena perrera 400
On my first trip to Spain in July 2007 with the French rescue association L’Europe des Levriers, we brought back to France 2 tripods, one a galgo and the other a podenca. It was the first time I had met tripod canines and I was very impressed how having 3 legs instead of 4 didn’t hinder them from haring around and playing with the other hounds.

One of my readers, Diane, adopted a tripod from the hellhole that was Mairena perrera, a privately owned killing station where the dogs hardly received the basics of life. Here Diane writes about Podenca Selina.

’16th January 2014– I was looking at my Facebook notifications from ‘For the Love of Dogs and Cats’ (FLODAC) rescue group in Spain, and saw a horrific news video of a notorious perrera‘Mairena’ near Seville, taken on Christmas Day 2013, which had been discovered to have been in an appalling state – dogs with no food or water; no staff or vet attendance over the 2 week holiday; pens flooded with water, dogs paddling in their own excrement; tiny mothers trying to protect new born puppies; dead dogs. This same perrera had been described by Beryl Brennan in 2011 as ‘cold, wet and dirty, the dogs are starving’. It seemed nothing had changed. The film created a furore when it was shown on Spanish television.

  • Podenca Summer with Podenco Friends – release from pain soon? Please donate

    Bev Summer Vet 400 28 4 2018
I previously reported the story of Podenca Summer in December 2016. Her story continues, now she is with Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends. Please help her, she has suffered so much.

‘Summer was handed into a Perrera ( a municipal pound) in Gran Canaria with a broken front wrist and a number of other medical conditions. She was in danger of being euthanised and was pulled from the pound by another party.

She was taken out of the perrera and re-homed in the UK, flown from GC to Madrid then a road transport to the UK with a broken front wrist! On arrival her adopter was shocked at the poor condition she was in and took her to her vet. Her adopter had not been fully informed of the problems and felt over- whelmed with all the medical issues the veterinary costs were beyond her nor the ability to give her the aftercare needed.

  • Is your dog the correct weight?

    Dog weight poster picture 400
This would be a good poster to put up in all vet clinics.

  • I am a dog!

    I am a Dog!

I feel emotions, just as you do. Just like you I feel Love, I feel Fear, I feel Pain and Joy. I also feel Grief!

I am not born knowing how to fit into your life. I will sometimes get it wrong. Sometimes I will not understand what you expect. I may fear things or act in a way you don’t understand. I may not understand how you are acting, or that strangers to the home mean no harm. I may not know what is acceptable to play with and what is not! I have to be taught these things, just as you had to be taught as a child.
I am an individual, and just like you may not fit exactly into your expectations.
Please teach me. I like to learn. I like to please. I love to be loved.
Just because I may make mistakes please don’t discard me.
I should not be an ‘until’ dog. I should be a forever dog!

Just like you, I feel Love! I feel Grief!

  • 3 podencos in Granada – sad, scared, needing homes

    Granada podencos 2 400
So sad. These 3 podencos lived together…and stayed with their owner when he died, before anyone found him. Here’s the appeal from the association who have them.

‘Estos tres podenquitos, dos hembras, y un macho, han sido recogidos por la zona de la Lancha del Genil, en una casa cueva, ju…

These three podenquitos, two females, and a male, have been picked up by the area of the boat, in a cave house, next to the dead body of its owner… 🙁

Apparently he’d been in that state for a few days.. and they didn’t move from his side. Imagine how they are.. Sad, scared..

They need a home, they need a lot of love.
