• Marching in Spain 14 September – remembering the 32 souls in Azuaga Badajoz

    From Plataforma NAC

    Indifference kills.

This Sunday 14 September we raise our voices for those who could not defend themselves.

32 lives killed by starvation and neglect in Azuaga (Badajoz). They were not forgotten. It was not an accident. It was cruelty.

245 animal protection entities, including some international ones, unite to demand justice and that this massacre never happens again https://plataformanac.org/concentracion-azuaga-14…/

Dozens of dogs have died between suffering, indifference and silence. We cannot allow barbarism to go unpunished.

This Sunday, September 14, from 11h to 13h, in Plaza de la Merced (opposite the Azuaga City Hall), we will raise our voice for those who no longer have it.

Because their life matters. Because they’re not tools. Because neglect and abuse kills.

Come. Shout. Spread the word. Let it not be repeated.

  • Telde, Gran Canaria – hunters protest

In Telde, Gran Canaria, where they hunt with podencos.

300 hunters claim in Telde to recover the lost days. They gathered middle of August in Telde to show their displeasure over the restrictions imposed during episodes of high temperatures, which they say have caused them to miss several days of hunting in Gran Canaria.

    (Pity the restrictions weren’t permanent!)

  • Injured podenco puppy rescued from a perrera

    Bev Pia 8 2025 350
From Bev Farmer of Podenco Friends

‘When a Podenco is no longer “useful,” this is what happens…

Pia is only 4 months old, weighs less than 3 kilos yet life has already been unbearably tough for her. She spent several weeks hidden away in a perrera, a frightening place for any puppy. Thankfully, a Spanish rescue stepped in and gave her a chance.

But Pia’s struggles didn’t end there. She was born with luxation of both patellas and will need surgery to walk and live comfortably. Most likely, this is why she was cruelly abandoned. On top of that, she is battling giardia, a parasite that can be life-threatening for a puppy if left untreated.

  • Portuguese Azores podencos in terrible conditions

    Azorean podenca chained 350
These photos were publicly posted by hunters in S.Miguel, Azores. One hunter that surrendered to us one of his injured podengos mentioned at the time: ¨’I am not a criminal, I like my dogs. Any other hunter I know would have shot this dog straightaway, as he can´t hunt anymore’.

There is a perception from inside the hunting community that things are not right. Many don´t like to be seen as criminals. Change must come from the inside. These images can´t be of Portugal much longer, surely.

  • Podenco Campanero Gandalf hoping for a special forever home.

    Campanero Gandalf 350
Here comes Gandalf and his story immediately captured our hearts. Gandalf is a Podenco Campanero – he is 4-5 years old and he is deaf. He was separated from his master because he went to a nursing home. And then unfortunately his master died very quickly. He had called every day and asked for Gandalf. But that can’t be a phone call anymore.

Gandalf is a super sweet and affectionate male. He gets along with other dogs and very friendly with people. Gandalf is looking for a very experienced home or foster home due to his deafness. We are just incredibly sorry for him. Is there a light sight for the beautiful Podenco boy? He is already neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested negative for Mediterranean diseases.
